Abstract

Ever wonder what the NOAA folks up in the new wing are up to? This Friday, Mashkoor Malik and Meme Lobecker, two Physical Scientists with the NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration and Research (OER), will give an introduction to the focus and goals of their work. Mashkoor and Meme serve as Physical scientists for NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration and Research. Their position is split between working onboard the Okeanos Explorer, "America's ship for exploration" and at Integrated Ocean and Coastal Mapping Center (IOCM) at CCOM. They will describe their position within the NOAA hierarchy, discuss OER program resources, and will highlight Okeanos Explorer accomplishments achieved during 2009. They will also give an overview of the exciting events OER has planned for the Okeanos Explorer in 2010, including missions to the Marianas Trench and the Indonesian EEZ. Finally, they will discuss opportunities for UNH colleagues to benefit from and contribute to the Okeanos Explorer program.
