Sally is a recent graduate of Maine Maritime Academy, where she earned her B.S. in Marine Science/Small Vessel Operations. As part of this degree program, she had the opportunity to conduct scientific research through her independent project using side-scan sonar to investigate the sedimentary environments of Nautilus Cove and Smith Cove, Maine.
While attending MMA, Sally had her first experience with ocean mapping as a Student Opportunity Participant on board the R/V Falkor with Schmidt Ocean Institute, where she assisted in seafloor mapping operations in the South Pacific Ellice Basin. This opportunity sparked her passion in ocean mapping and led her to become an Explorer-in-Training intern on board the NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer. As part of this internship, she worked with NOAA mapping deep water areas southeast of Bermuda in support of the Galway Statement on Atlantic Ocean Cooperation.
Sally is thrilled to be a part of the CCOM community. She is pursuing a M.S. in Earth Sciences: Ocean Mapping, as well as a Graduate Certificate in Geospatial Science. Her interests include ocean mapping exploration, seafloor characterization, and using mapping to improve nautical charts. She is especially excited about combining her love of ocean mapping and research vessels to pursue fieldwork at sea. Sally spends her free time sailing, hiking, skiing, and SCUBA diving, enjoying the outdoors as much as possible.
