Abstract

Dr. Guerra will talk about field measurements, models and recent findings on the hydrodynamics of tidal channels, including data from channels in Chilean Patagonia, US Pacific Northwest, and the Bay of Fundy in Canada.

Bio

Dr. Maricarmen Guerra is an Assistant Professor in the Civil Engineering Department at Universidad de Concepción, Chile. Her research lies on the dynamics of coastal and fluvial systems through field observations and numerical modeling, with a focus on understanding currents, turbulence, waves, and their interactions in high-energy environments.

With over a decade of experience, Dr. Guerra has led and contributed to research and development projects in marine energy, coastal and riverine flooding, and, more recently, in oceanographic forecasting. She holds a Civil Engineering degree and a Master’s in Hydraulic Engineering from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Washington, Seattle, USA.
