Summary

A team of oceanographers led by Schmidt Ocean Institute in partnership with CCOM have discovered and mapped a new seamount on the Nazca Ridge in international waters, 900 miles off the coast of Chile. The newly discovered underwater mountain is nearly two miles tall and supports a "thriving ecosystem" including some very rare species. As many as 20 suspected new species have been collected from the area.
