President Obama has appointed Dr. Larry Mayer to a four-year term on the U.S. Arctic Research Commission, an independent federal agency that advises the President and Congress.

A seafloor feature in the Gulf of Mexico is newly named the Armstrong Basin in honor of JHC co-director Andy Armstrong. The basin is 10 by 30 kilometers in area and ranges from 325 to 450 meters in depth.

Jon Hunt operates the Zego personal surveying vessel.

Our newest research vessel is a Zego boat that was designed and built in New Zealand, then shipped to Higgs Hydrographic TEK in Florida where it was retrofitted with survey instrumentation. It will be used for shallow-water, near-shore mapping. Any name suggestions? Besides Boaty McBoatface?
